SILK CARE GUIDE
How To Care For Your Silk

How To Care For Your Pieces
At Silk Laundry, every piece is designed to be worn often and kept for years. Care is part of that process. We work primarily with silk, but also with cotton, wool blends, and specialty fabrics across collections. Each material is selected for its feel, function and longevity and with the right care, will only get better over time.
Why Silk
Silk is often misunderstood as delicate, but it is one of the strongest natural fibres in the world. Historically used in parachutes for its strength, elasticity and tear resistance, silk has a unique balance of durability and softness. It moves with the body, holds its shape and adapts across seasons. We choose silk for its longevity, its natural origin, and the way it wears in - not out. It’s designed to be part of your wardrobe for years, not moments.
Our Approach to Fabric
We work with silk differently.
Cut on the bias — allowing fabric to drape naturally and move with the body
Considered fabric weight — chosen for structure, opacity, and durability
Designed for longevity — pieces that move between occasions and seasons
Washable silk — made to be worn, not reserved
These choices are intentional. They make each piece easier to wear, care for, and keep.
How to Care for Silk
Silk doesn’t need to be complicated. A few simple steps will maintain its finish and extend its life.
Washing
Cold hand wash or gentle machine wash
Use a mild or natural detergent
Wash with similar colours
Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals
Drying
Do not tumble dry
Gently reshape and hang or lay flat to dry
Keep out of direct sunlight
Finishing
Steam or iron on a low (silk) setting
Always iron on the reverse side
Between Wears
Air your garment between wears rather than over-washing
Store folded or on a hanger to maintain shape
Caring for Other Fabrics
Our collections also include natural fibres and blends. The same philosophy applies - care with intention.
Cotton & Voile
Cold machine wash
Line dry
Warm iron if needed
Wool & Wool Blends
Cold hand wash or dry clean
Lay flat to dry
Avoid heat to prevent shrinkage
Specialty Fabrics (Foil, Textured, Embellished)
Gentle hand wash or dry clean recommended
Handle with care to preserve finish
If in doubt, always refer to the care label inside your garment.
A Note on Longevity
Silk is a natural fibre that softens and evolves with wear. Subtle changes in texture are part of its character. With proper care, your pieces will continue to move with you - over time, across seasons and through different moments of life.
